Teena is a native of New York, and grew up in the Bronx. Teena has been happily married for 30 years and blessed with two adult children. She grew a passion for assisting others by watching her late parents Hugh & Jeraldean Hanks (Hanks Family Safe Haven) provide shelter & basic needs for several family members during the 1970’s. Teena’s first experience with homelessness prevention was helping a close friend by providing a safe shelter until she was able to provide for herself. Teena’s Family Safe Haven may have seemed small, but in the grand scheme of things they were helping to stomp out domestic violence and homelessness before it affected people that were in need.
Outreach has been a part of Teena’s life since she can remember. Teena has helped lead Family worship Center Church Faith outreach for six years. She led initiatives that targeted the impacts of hunger and homelessness in various areas of her community. During the pandemic she organized small group outings and handed out food, masks, safety resources and most importantly, connection to any that needed it within the community. Teena’s motto is, “treat others the way you want to be treated.” When you honor the humanity in others, you gain a level of trust, respect and reciprocity. Teena provides support to our Abundant living Shelter team as Co Founder & Executive Director, leading in organizational planning, budgeting, outreach, events, coaching, ministerial needs, and fundraising. Teena is excited to help her community live abundantly. One family and one program at a time
